To my honour I bagged the second prize in the competition. It was so enriching to get in touch with so many people and live their feelings and emotions through their poems,” said Tanushree Mishra.
THE POEM
Hey there, i am rooting for you
cause i know you think you are dime a dozen but you work hard to prove it wrong.
Hey there, i am rooting for you,
cause i know you have that never ending urge to inject yourself with that poison
but you have gathered enough strength to shut it down.
Hey there, i am rooting for you,
cause i know that you always thought that drugs are your best chums
but you are trying hard to get with it done.
Hey there, i am rooting for you,
cause i know you thought you have slim to none chance in this world and took refuge in your drugs and alcohol
but i also know that now you realise there is much more to life than just addiction and drugs.
hey there, i am rooting for you,
cause i know you started it all in a friendly escape
nothing more but for a few moments to cascade
but i also know that you want to elevate
hey there, i am rooting for you,
cause i know you wanted to follow the trend, be in vogue
but i also know that you realise now that it all was a fog
hey there, i am rooting for,
cause i know you were the on the streets once frantically asking for quids to get your hands on the liquid
but i also know that now you are on the streets helping people get equipped.
hey there, i am rooting for you,
cause i know your day started and ended with umpteen puffs
cause i know the hold of a cigarette defined the dexterity of your fingers
but i also know that now you sniff the air of gratitude
now your fingers are not adorned with a cigarette of GOLD brand but jewelery made of gold.
hey there, i am rooting for you,
cause i know the colour of you soft lips has changed
cause i know the complexion of your fingers has turned ashy
cause i know your eyes have become definingly baggy.
but i also want you to know that you are beautiful my love.
that the world has enough sunshine for you to contain
that you never have to hide behind drugs or alcohol again
that i am here for your strength to regain.
