About School of Mass Communication

The School of Mass Communication became vibrant by intake of students in its Under Graduate programme in 2016. In 2017 the department has shifted to its state-of-art new building in Campus-18. Set just around the gorgeous Rose Garden and set amidst the scenic beauty, the SMC has excellent infrastructure provided by KIIT. Its sister concerns such as Kalinga TV and kalingatv.com are assets for the students to learn and become industry ready. The continuing programmes are Bachelor of Communication and Journalism (BCJ), Masters of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) and PhD in Communication and Journalism. BCJ and MCJ are considered as Dual Degree, which follows a liberal structure of 3+2 (Graduation+Masters), meaning there is a facility for an exit after graduation. Masters programme with specializations will commence in 2019. The members of the Board of Studies have approved the syllabus stating that this course is a holistic one which will create a solid foundation for the students at graduation level and expertise at masters level.

To inspire excellence through proper pedagogy that will develop critical thinking and problem-solving attitude among the students. It aims in preparing future journalists and communicators to build a plural, democratic and information-rich society, which is driven by knowledge, ethics and values.

CEO Message

In order to meet the professional demands of the highly competitive media industry, KIIT University is providing quality media education in a state of the art environment and technical facilities in a smart city like Bhubaneswar.
In KIIT School of Mass Communication, which became vibrant in 2016, knowledge comes in the form of experience. The aim is to make the students industry ready therefore they are provided with industry exposure, workshops, seminars, lectures and with valuable interactions from media experts.

Students get learning experience in an environment where every day is eventful in many ways like seminars, lectures, meetings workshops, public functions. Here students get an opportunity to listen and interact with Nobel laureates, top politicians, ambassadors, social workers, film personalities and many others. This is not just an institute but an institution where old tested ways of imparting education have given way to the new experiential ways of learning. They get hands on experience and exposure as the University has its own Audio- Visual cell, Public Relation office, Event and Publication Division.

The aim of the Master of Communication & Journalism (Integrated) course is to initiate students into a path of discovery, helping them analyse and find solutions to problems faced by humanity today.

Knowledge is a journey and I hope students of Mass Communication with the varied and humongous exposure provided here will have the mettle to break free from the conventional and explore the road less travelled. We would like to see every student take wings as a professional and forge ahead in path of success.
