A 4-day workshop on “Documentary Production and Post-Production” for the 5th semester students of Integrated Master of Communication and Journalism was conducted at KIIT School of Mass Communication as a part of Documentary Filmmaking course during 8 and 11 November, 2019. The workshop dealt with the production and post-production aspects based on the first documentary draft provided by the students.
Professor Vasuki Belavadi from SN School of Communication, University of Hyderabad conducted the workshop. He has over 2 decades of experience in teaching and building capacity in participatory video-making, particularly for children & adolescents. He specialises in video production and has good grounding in radio programming & production as well. Professor Belavadi is the author of Video Production (Oxford University Press, 2008), the first to be published in India and has been an extensively recommend handbook for all students of production across the globe. He is also a Faculty Fellow, UNESCO Chair on Community Media.
As part of the course, the students had made 3 documentary films in groups. The topics the students worked on were Pahala Rasgulla, Slum Life and life of street dogs. Professor Belavadi guided the students individually to bring about certain structural and aesthetic changes to their films. Based on the input provided, the students shot and re-edited their films. The final drafts of the films were screened followed by an open jury. The films received appreciation for their informative nature and motivated the juniors.
