An eminent educationist and media scholar, Prof. Vinod Pavarala, UNESCO Chair on Community Media at University of Hyderabad interacted with 2nd year and 3rd year students of School of Mass Communication, KIIT Deemed to be University on 13th July 2018. He inspired them to be aware about social issues to become good journalists and communicators.
“The course will teach you how to communicate in different platforms but you need to know what to communicate”, said Prof. Pavarala, further adding, that there is an urgent need for journalism students to understand the social issues affecting the society today.
Prof. Pavarala told the students that they have entered into the field at the most “opportunistic time” as there has been a drastic change in the communication sector. He said that everyday there is a new innovation in media and the job opportunities are plenty. He encouraged the students to be proactive in their learning and create their own media products.
He also replied to some queries of the students on higher studies, future career prospects and MA Entrance examination in University of Hyderabad and other leading Universities in European and American Universities.
Prof. Pavarala has a distinguished career and holds dual masters degree in Sociology and Communication and a PhD from University of Pittsburgh (USA). He taught at the University of Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, USA) and IIT-Bombay before joining University of Hyderabad in 1995. He has authored several books, serves on the Boards of Studies of several universities and is part of national level committees on media education.
