Keeping with its tradition of Monday Morning Talk by eminent academicians and industry experts, Dr. Mihir Ranjan Patra delivered a talk on Public Relations at School of Mass Communication, KIIT University on July 29, 2019.
In his talk aptly titled “Power of Public Relations”, Dr. Patra said that good PR involves 90 per cent hard work and 10 per cent recognition about the work.
“Public relations is to create, maintain and sustain good relations with different groups and communities related to the organisation,” Prof Patra elaborated on this definition and explained various publics in PR to the students.
He further talked about the importance of communication and good will. He also touched on different topics such as advertising calling it an exercise in image making, the importance of evaluation, the concept of feed forward as compared to feedback, manufactured consent and engineered consent among others.
Talking about crisis management he pointed out that, “No publicity is bad publicity”, as every problem has an opportunity.
Dr. Mihir Ranjan Patra is presently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Management & Technology, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar, Haryana. He has a rich teaching experience of twenty-three years in subjects like Advertising, Public Relations and Media Writing.
At the beginning, Ms. Abhilipsa Mohanty, introduced the guest and Ms. Nitali Johori, proposed the Vote of Thanks, both are IMCJ fifth semester students.
Dr. B. B. Dash, Assistant Professor and Course Coordinator, Ms. Ruby Nanda, Assistant Professor, Mr. Sudarsan Sahoo Faculty Associate, Souptik Garai, Faculty Associate, KIIT School of Mass Communication were also present during the talk.
Notably, Monday Morning Talk is the flagship programme of School of Mass Communication, where an eminent personalities from different walks of life every Monday connect with the budding journalists.
