Tanisha Agrawal,  2nd Semester, BCJ

Born from a love-affair with language, my passion for communication and understanding the intricacies of our world has inspired me to cherish the wordsmith within me. Hello. My name is Tanisha Agrawal. I am 17 years old and belong to a small industrial town known as Rajgangpur, which is in the Sundargarh district of Odisha. Talking about my educational background, I studied till class 8 in an ICSE affiliated school and completed the second part of my high school from a CBSE affiliated school.  And I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Communication and Journalism at the School of Mass Communication, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. It has been nearly a year here at KSMC and the experience has been amazing. The people, faculty, environment and campus, everything over here is nice. I have been provided with the opportunity to attend and cover many events on behalf of the school and at university level. But there was one event which has been the most memorable for me.

In the month of December 2023 from 10th to 13th , I got to cover the 2023 IEEE 3rd International Conference on STPEC, organized by the KIIT School of Electrical Engineering. We went there as a team of six media students handling the media department of the event representing our school. It was a great experience to be a part of an event organized at such a high level. It was so because firstly we got to learn so many new things. We learned how to take interviews, handle professional cameras, management skills, and got to interact with international presenters at the conference. I personally got the chance to interview renowned speakers present there and be behind the camera handling it professionally. Being behind the camera was my favorite part, I never thought that working behind the camera would be so fun and that it would get my interest and I will want to work as a “Camera Woman” (this is the title that has been given to me by a professor in the event).

Such activities was helpful in growing and developing some professional skills which are needed in the journalism profession. Secondly, we got to meet renowned international speakers and PhD scholars who came to present their papers and students and professors of the electrical department who actively participated in it. We got to attend the paper presentations which were not related to our field of expertise, but it gave us knowledge of things apart from our course. It was a nice experience. The people present over there were so friendly and warm. Everyone was so impressed by us there. We were three girls in the group, and we have been given the name “Media Ladies” by an international professor and since then the legacy of us being called that continues…
