
Aniruddha Jena
Assistant Professor
Dr Aniruddha Jena was associated with UNESCO Chair on Community Media, University of Hyderabad and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal in the capacities of Research Assistant and Academic Assistant respectively. He also served as Editorial Assistant for CR News, an e-newsletter published by UNESCO Chair on Community Media. Currently, He finished his Doctoral Degree at the Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad. He has received Ambedkar-Bhagat Singh National Media Fellowship in 2017. For carrying out his doctoral research, he was funded by Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund for Doctoral Scholars for two years i.e. 2018-2020. He is the recipient of Shastri Research Student Fellowship (SRSF) from Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) for 2019-20. As part of the SRSF, he joined York University, Toronto, Canada as an International Visiting Research Trainee (IVRT) for a period of 26 weeks. He has published his writings (Articles, Review Essays, Interviews, Commentaries, and Postscripts) in journals like Communication Theory, Media Asia, Asia Pacific Media Educator, Economic & Political Weekly, Community Development Journal, South Asia Research, and Journal of South Asian Development. A few of his Book Chapters as part of Edited Volumes are published with Routledge, Palgrave Macmillan, and Springer. His research and teaching interests include Alternative and Community Media Studies, Communication for Development and Social Change, Communication Theory, Communication and Media Research, Communication and Culture, and Media and Margin.

a) Awarded with the prestigious Shastri Indo-Canada Institute’s Shastri Research Student Fellowship (SICI-SRSF) for the year 2019-2020. As part of which I joined York University, Toronto, Canada as an International Visiting Research Trainee (IVRT)between December 2021 – May 2022. b) Granted with GBP£400 by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to present a conference paper in the 2019 Millennium Conference organised by the Department of International Relations and Millennium Journal of International Relations on the 19th and 20th of October, 2019. c) Granted with AU$400 by the conference organiser to present a conference paper in the International Conference on Citizen and Community Media organised by the School of Communication at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia on 6th and 7th of June, 2019. d) Awarded with the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund (JNMF) Doctoral Scholarship for two years (2019 & 2020) for conducting Doctoral Research. e) Qualified University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligible Test (NET) exam for the post of Assistant Professor in July 2018. f) Awarded with Ambedkar – Bhagat Singh National Media Fellowship by the Centre for Criminology, Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai for a period of ten months from Feb 1, 2017 to Dec 31, 2017. g) Awarded Gold Medal in M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Central University of Odisha, Koraput for securing highest grade point (8.3/10 CGPA) for the academic year 2013-15.
